So you got this smash film and now what do you do with it. I’m personally not near in producing my own film yet but I want to know what my outlets are. My roots are in the music business and we also have the same issues. Distribution…the elusive holy grail. You hear it all the time, “once we get distribution, we’re set” or better yet, “trying to get distribution is a b*tch”. Most distributors aren’t looking at you unless you are doing something big on your own. Which if you think about it correctly, then you don’t REALLY NEED THEM. With how technology is now, all you need is a little time and a plan to get things out. Jon Reiss and Sherri Candler present a creative way on how to get your films out without “selling” your soul!

This is a must read for independent filmmakers that are wondering what to do next with their projects, besides entering them in film festivals and like. If you get and get it now, it’s FREE in most formats except paperback until October 1st, 2011 and after that will be available for $4.99 which is still awesome for this kind of information, definitely this is a must have in your arsenal!

Hopefully this will inspire you as it has inspired me!

Although this post has nothing to do with my normal subject matter, I wanted to share an alliance we are cultivating. Founder of the Artist Shop, Francis Palacios is teaming up with New Day Home School Academy to bring the art of music, photography and video into a class like program for the youth. This is an exciting endeavor and we will keep you posted as things progress. To see more of what will be offered go to http://newdayhomeschool.com/ and click on the School News link and you will see under Upcoming Events what the program will be offering.

Thought I’d post a little more information on Erika Allen’s music video, produced and directed by Lyriqal Blyss of LB Productions and DP’d by your’s truly! This was such a fun project and I’m looking forward to more from the creative mind of LB.

Here are some behind the scenes of the short film Currency: Full Circle by director/writer/filmmaker Daniel Ransom – I was honored to be asked to be DP on this project. I had a great time, met some great people and had a great team! Preparation, preparation, preparation, are the words DreQuan from Mark Square Studios lives by. “We are in a battle and our opponent is time!” he says while getting ready to get the next scenes ready. We’ll have more on him as well in a future post. Stayed tuned for the release of Currency: Full Circle, a D Ran film!

I had the pleasure of being DP for Director/producer Lyrical Blyss for artist Erika Allen’s debut music video “An After Thought” – Find out more about this amazingly talented artist at http://www.erikasguitar.com/ – but while you are here, sit back and enjoy!

Canon is up to something and it will be revealed on 3 November in Hollywood, according to an invite going out to press in the States.

The press release entitled “The Story begins”, the cryptic invite only adds that “Canon is making a historic global announcement”.

No one is leaking anything at this point and fans are guessing at what it could be. “Basically there are two things it could be (unless it’s a new printer) a Canon 5D MK III or more likely given the location for this launch (Hollywood) the much rumored EF and PL camcorder with Super 35mm sensor… that may or may not be of a 4K resolution,” says photographer, and known Canon fan, Philip Bloom on his blog.

Of course it could be a new DSLR sporting the new DIGIC 5 processor sneakily announced in the Canon S100 on Thursday, or a mirror-less model to take on the Micro Four Thirds and APS-C sensor offerings from Olympus, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony.

In any case, save the date, put it in your phones, your iPads, your HTCs, whatever you use to keep appointments. Hopefully knowing Canon it won’t be disappointing!

First of all, let me start by saying these guys really rock! They have been teaching indie filmmakers, tips and tricks for a while now and they have delivered a wonderful action packed short called “Losses”.  Josh really stretched his acting skills be portraying a killer! It was just so cool to see.  You would expect the normal Film Riot humor that they have been known for and I’ve have so grown to love, but it has a certain Bourne Identity/Jason Statham(ish) feel! I love the color grading and the lighting! The feel was wonderful.  And I know a lot people commented on the shakiness of some of the scenes. Yes maybe in some places it was a little too much but it gave the film movement and almost an urgency. So without further adieu here is “LOSSES” – It is suggested that you watch this FULL SCREEN and choose Original to see it in it’s full 2k glory!

I must say I watch Emm on Cheesycam.com to get the updates on a lot of things. I made my first Fig Rig from his design, got my battery grip and even my circular LED (camp light). Also he’s helped with having me avoid disaster with my “almost purchase” of the $60 Matte Box. So when I saw that he created something new for us independent filmmakers and at a cost point that we would love, I had to post it here! Here is Emm talking about his new baby, the Pico Flex Table Dolly!

I will be putting in an order myself for one of these babies! It looks to be a whole lot of fun!

More Takumar fun

Having some more fun with the lens. It is so warm, and I’m actually taking pictures with the technicolor cinestyle picture style on my T2i. I know it’s for movies but I like it so much I don’t even bother changing it when I take pictures, which I know I should do…oh well live and learn! Enjoy!

Ok so I love checking out lenses from craigslist, especially if I can get a deal. Well just recently I acquired a Super Takumar 50mm Lens from a fellow photographer with the adapter for the canon and man I’m so glad I did! A friend of mine said it feels like a Bentley, so smooth, sturdy, all metal construction, heavy and of course ALL MANUAL!

I’ve never used an all manual lens before so it was interesting getting to know it. It has a great bokeh. I will post some pictures I took with it as well as video. It has a warm feel to it and is sharp! Might turn out to be one my favorite lenses to shoot with! Primes are truly the best! If you can get them, DO!
